Although my adventure to Frankfurt was more or less a gateway to my European travels, the city’s rich culture and history, dining, and amusement options over a six-hour layover period was wonderful. Standing in the center of the Römerberg (medieval town square), a re-creation of once neo-gothic houses and government buildings lining a beautiful square. The Eiserner Steg Bridge- a pedestrian bridge in Frankfurt am Main, was definitely the highlight of the trip, enchanted with thousands upon thousands of love locks from sweethearts all around the world.
Typically theses sweethearts names or initials are inscribed on the padlock, and its key tossed away as a symbol of their unbreakable love, but some of the locks here actually shared poems and vows…. truly heart felt. Some other notable sites would be the Frankfurt Cathedral- a Roman Catholic Gothic church located in the centre, which at one point in time served as the former election and coronation church of the entire Holy Roman Empire. All-in-all, a beautiful city with great architecture, interesting history, good food and great beer.
